Timelines are based on the current list of registrations from jointruestream.com, which changes daily, and the current number of crews working. These dates are for construction progress. The drop brings the fiber line from the mainline to the side of the home and generally follows the path of your electric, overhead, or underground.

Estimated times are for construction only. Installations in the home will follow AFTER construction has been completed, network equipment is installed, tested, and we have confirmed the fiber network and line to your home is operational.

We are updating our fiber mapping program, thank you for your patience as we make those changes. If you are unsure where your home is located, please message us on Facebook or email [email protected] with your service address and we can let you know.

Now let’s get to the important stuff!

Newaygo & Wayland

As we continue to make plans to build Truestream’s mainline fiber infrastructure, we have encountered some challenges around protected outdoor spaces that must be addressed before we can continue our construction plans.

Our mainline fiber network will pass through state and federal forest land in our Newaygo and Wayland service areas. Before we can pass through the forest areas, we need to obtain the necessary state and federal permits. Permitting is a normal part of our construction process, but due to some process changes at the state and federal level, these permits are taking longer than anticipated to acquire.  To that end, we must postpone construction to the Newaygo service area and the Middleville area in Wayland until 2022. In-home installation in the delayed areas will occur in mid-to-late 2022 and into 2023.  We will continue to construct our Truestream fiber network in our Hart service area, primarily Oceana County, and in a small portion of the Wayland service area in Allegan County.

This is not the great news we had hoped to be sharing with you, but it is the reality, and our goal is to be transparent through this whole process. Rest assured we are still planning to bring Truestream to your area after we receive the required permits.

We apologize for the delay and understand you may be disappointed – we feel it, too. As we work through the steps to obtain the permits, we will keep you updated.

  • Yellow – Pre-Construction; Orange – Gathering Interest

  • Wayland 4

Waters and Kalkaska

We’re exploring the possibility of expanding our fiber internet and voice service to parts of the Waters and Kalkaska service regions. As we move through this process, we will break the service areas up into smaller sections.

Orange – Gathering Interest

Phase 1 is the fielding and planning phase. We will begin in Waters in mid-March, and move into Kalkaska and finish later this year. In this phase, we collect data including the type of residence, pole information, and other data related to infrastructure. This data helps us determine the feasibility of expanding Truestream, including mapping out infrastructure needs and how to get the fiber lines to members’ homes.

Phase 2 is the construction of the fiber network. The information gathered during the Phase 1 fielding process, including a proposed budget and map of the mainline fiber route, will be presented to the board later in 2021 for approval. If approved, the construction of the fiber network would begin in 2022. This construction process can be labor intensive because it involves running the fiber line along the electrical path, which includes both underground and overhead electrical lines.

Phase 3 is when we connect homes and businesses to the Truestream network. Depending on the timeframes of Phases 1 & 2, we expect to begin connecting homes and businesses in 2023.

Free in-home installation, valued at $149, is currently available for Great Lakes Energy members who register interest.
