Great Lakes Energy(GLE) is exploring the possibility of expanding Truestream fiber internet and voice service to the Boyne service area! This includes rural parts of Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, and Otsego counties served by GLE with electricity. GLE members in the Boyne service area led the way in registering their interest on www.jointruestream.com, which was a driving factor in choosing this area next. We know there are still many homes and businesses without access to decent internet, let alone the high speeds of a fiber connection, which is why we’re working hard to diligently plan building a network that will bring a revolutionary service to GLE members.
What We’ll be Doing…
Beginning in early April, contract crews will visit each GLE electric service location in the Boyne service area to collect meter and other location data in order to assess network viability (see map below). Contractors will not need access inside member homes.
This preliminary engineering field work will take around 10 weeks to complete with plans for a second field study in the early fall. The data collected will help us understand the best way to move forward for members in our Boyne service area. If the findings are positive, we may budget for expansion of the fiber network in 2020, pending approval by the GLE board of directors in late 2019.
